About Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is a security mechanism that requires multiple factors of authentication to verify a user's identity for a login or other transaction. Factors for authentication may include knowledge (something a user knows, like a password), possession (something a user has, like a key card), and inherence (something a user is, like biometrics). MFA provides an extra layer of security to prevent unauthorized access to systems.
What Problems it Solves
Credential theft through phishing scams, or system compromise allows threat actors to take complete control of systems and network environments. MFA significantly increases the security of logins, with each additional factor making it less likely that an unauthorized individual could impersonate a legitimate user or compromise an account.
What the Service Provides
- Access and licenses to utilize either a software or hardware token as an additional authentication factor for logging in to systems, as well as support to deploy and implement within an agency environment.
